CHIA  (Salvia hispanica) has been used by the Tarahumara Indian running tribe for energy on ultra-long distant runs. Chia seeds soaked in water is known as chia fresca iskiate. The soaked seeds are gelatinous in texture and are used in gruels, porridges, puddings or as an egg substitute in recipes. Chia oil is a supplement for omega-3's, specifically α-linolenic acid (ALA), antioxidants and a variety of vitamins, minerals and fibre. Commercial names include Anutra, Chia Sage, Salba, Tresalbio.
