PERCHLORATE main use is for rocket fuel. It has been detected in rain, snow, drinking water, groundwater. In large amounts perchlorate interferes with iodine uptake into the thyroid gland. Lung symptoms include inflammatory infiltrates, alveolar collapse, subpleural thickening, and lymphocyte proliferation.
