CRISCO was developed during war time as a substitute for making soap. It contains transfat and is made solid at room temperature, harmful for cystic organs. Crisco patented two processes to hydrogenate cottonseed oil, which ensures the fat remains solid at normal storage temperatures. It was called Crisco, crystallized cottonseed oil.
